Eating Paleo on a ski trip is easier than you think! Read to find out how I did it.
I love to ski. There’s something very primal about the act of being outdoors. I recently made a trip to Copper Mountain, Colorado. For the first half of the trip I went with my dad, and then met up with some friends for the second half. Staying Paleo wasn’t hard at all, although I did choose to let myself indulge in some alcohol [see 411 on alcohol in my eBook].
So what was a normal eating day for me on the slopes? With my dad we were on the slopes by 9 o’clock. We usually fasted until about 11 or 12 and then came in for lunch/breakfast to eat eggs, meat, and veggies- usually a scramble with a mixture of all three. Then we hit the slopes again and came in for dinner. Dinner varied; my favorite night was when we made Paleo Chili.
But maybe you aren’t a two-meal type of person. Perhaps you eat smaller but more frequent meals. If you need snacks, keep a bag of nuts in your pocket, an apple, homemade jerky, banana brittle, or grab a Paleo-friendly bar (there are a few on the market).
Skiing is an excellent sport, and great exercise. It’s important to fuel yourself properly and efficiently when working out. I included sweet potatoes almost every day during my trip to have sufficient carbohydrates. Stay away from the pizza and cookies that may tempt you after your long cardio day. If you fail to plan, by buying groceries and cooking, then you are setting yourself up for failure. Don’t forget that processed foods and sugar will not keep your energy stable for your trip.
But don’t forget it’s vacation, so some Paleo friendly treats could be okay. Like on my trip, you may allow dark chocolate and red wine to be a part of your ski trip intake!
