I didn’t know whether to call this a smoothie, frosty, milkshake or what? It truly tastes like a frosty, which is sort of a milkshake, but it’s made like a smoothie. So I called it a Paleo Chocolate Smoothie. But either way, it’s heavenly so please make it.
A lot of my recipes come from the following process. I try something at a restaurant. It tastes amazing. I want to make it at home. I keep making it until it tastes like the first thing I tried. The end. This recipe is similar to a smoothie I got at The Big Squeezy in Baton Rouge. It was called “The Awesomeness”, rightfully.
The real trick to this recipe is to use a BlendTec blender. It is by far my favorite appliance in my kitchen. Not only can it make any smoothie have the perfect texture, but it also is good for blending soups, ice cream, nut butters, you name it.
Okay so here’s the version I made today. I used a ripe room temperature banana, cacao powder, almond butter, honey, ice and water. You can use a frozen banana, which would make it thicker and you would need less ice.
- 1 banana
- 2 Tablespoons almond butter
- 1 Tablespoon cacao powder
- ½ Tablespoon honey
- 1 cup of ice
- ½ cup water
- Optional: 1 cup of ice
- 1. Place all ingredients in a Blendtec blender and use the smoothie cycle button. (About 30 seconds on a regular blender)
- 2. Add additional cup of ice and blend again for about 10-15 seconds.

Hi What brand of cacao powder do you use. I see a few on Amazon with great reviews but they also seem to have high metal/toxicity levels and are even saying they have carcinogenic (sp) properties. I’d like to start making this smoothie and hoping to use the best form/version of the cacao powder out there. Thanks in advance for the reply.

I use a brand that I found at whole foods, it’s some brand that says “superfood” on it! Sorry I don’t have any on hand to go check!
