If you’ve ever thought about writing a blog, today I’m going to teach you the best way to do it. A simple Google Search can give you thousands of different opinions on how to start a blog, but many will lead you to roadblocks. If you are going to do it, do it right from the start. Learning how to start a blog is as easy as these three easy steps!
IMPORTANT: If you want the best method to begin blogging, listen to a blogger (me!). These steps will lead you to a GREAT start.
3 General Steps (details below)
1. Pick a name. Buy the name and space on Bluehost.
2. Set up WordPress so you can manage your blog.
3. Make it pretty with a theme from StudioPress
1. Name & Space
First think about what you want your blog’s subject to be, and then choose a fitting name. For instance, my sister’s blog is about writing, so it’s called Blots and Plots. It hints at the subject of books and writing, and it’s original.
You are going to need to go to Bluehost to find out if your name is available. Then you can buy that domain name, and set up a hosting account. Hosting means buying your “space” online. I like to think of it as real estate but online. Bluehost is the BEST hosting site to start on, and it’s extremely affordable.
I suggest buying your name now, even if you aren’t ready to start blogging! Your name could be gone any second!
2. WordPress
So you bought your name and got your “space” online with Bluehost. Now you’re going to need to install WordPress. That’s where you’ll be managing your blog and uploading your content. This part is free with your Bluehost account!
Note: With this method, you now own your domain. You are using WordPress.org NOT wordpress.com. Totally different! Don’t get confused. WordPress.org gives you more freedom to customize your site.
Go through those installation steps, and now you’ll get to a screen like this, below. This is what it will look like EVERY time you want to log in to your site. Once you’re in, you can start making content and customizing.
3. Making it Your Own!
Whether your site is about fashion, food, fitness, or another subject, you need to customize it!
The best site for buying themes is StudioPress. My past theme and my current theme are from StudioPress, and they are easy to install and easy to manage. This is cheaper than hiring a web designer, and then you can customize your theme with Widgets. Widgets are applications, like the Instagram box and the “sign up for my newsletter” boxes on the right side of my site.
Now you know how to start a blog!! Need more help? Bluehost has great customer service, and so does Studiopress. I called and emailed them a few times to help me through some of the steps and tweaking! If you need more help on blogging, ask me your questions through email- bravoforpaleo@gmail.com . I’d be happy to answer!
